Before you hop on your Vespa, it’s a good idea to take a moment to review the most important rules, how insurance works, and what to do if something goes wrong while you’re on the road. We’ll explain it all clearly below.
Driver's license and age
To legally (and safely!) ride a 50cc motorcycle on Belgian roads, you need to have a valid AM, A, or B driver's license.
There are clear age requirements for renting a scooter:
Driver: must be at least 18 years old
Passenger: minimum age 14
These rules ensure that both drivers and passengers can participate in traffic safely and responsibly.
Insurance
Of course, we won’t just leave you to fend for yourself on the roads of Flanders. Every Vespa that leaves our lot comes standard with comprehensive third-party liability insurance. This means you’re fully compliant with the law, and any damage to third parties is properly covered. Just keep in mind that in the event of damage to the scooter itself, an deductible always applies. The exact amount depends on the situation.
Bad luck on the road
Let’s be honest: a mechanical breakdown is the last thing you want to deal with. But (unfortunately) it can always happen. If you run into trouble on the road, you can reach us 24/7 via the emergency number we’ll give you before you leave. We’ll arrange for assistance or a replacement vehicle (if possible) as quickly as possible.
Safety
Always wear a helmet: A helmet significantly reduces the risk of serious injury.
Stay alert on the road: Drive defensively, especially in busy cities
Adjust your driving style to the weather
